The artist

Ceramiche Rampini has been in the business of making beautiful pottery since 1954. It's a small, family-run studio whose work is rooted in the ceramic tradition of Gubbio, a charming Umbrian village. The Rampinis are the makers of the popular Rinascimento, a lovely design with a secret. It is handpainted using a proprietary method that delivers a textured, en-relief decoration. Ceramiche Rampini is also one of the official producers of the Brocche dei Ceri, the traditional jugs used in the Race of the Saints, a spectacular event held in Gubbio on May 15th, the day before St Ubaldo day.

Gubbio is a lovely medieval Umbrian town, with picture-book pretty steep streets and rosy stone houses. In Roman times, it was a key stop on the east-west trade route crossing the Appennines, thus developing as an important hub for arts and crafts. Its reputation in ceramics production attracted talents from neighboring regions, and eventually, Mastro Giorgio Andreoli settled in Gubbio in 1495. His iridescent luster majolica earned him fame and honors, and it is still a most prized possession for art collectors and museums worldwide.
Gubbio is still a vibrant pottery-making center, with many artisans keeping the traditional production methods alive.
