Vase with Gold Leaf
Descriptions & details
This vase combines Rampini's iconic blue Rinascimento design with Gubbio's renowned lustre ceramics, reflecting Giulia's preference for modern, simple forms. Lustre is an advanced technique that creates a stunning iridescent finish by applying metallic glazes—such as silver, copper, or gold—before a third firing in the kiln.

The artist
The Rampini family has been crafting beautiful pottery since 1954. Today, the studio is operated by Giulia Rampini, the founder's granddaughter, and her mother, Rossana. Their work is deeply rooted in the ceramic tradition of Gubbio, a charming village in Umbria. Their most popular design is called Rinascimento, which features a unique painting method that creates a textured, raised decoration.
Gubbio is a lovely medieval Umbrian town, with picture-book pretty steep streets and rosy stone houses. In Roman times, it was a key stop on the east-west trade route crossing the Apennines, thus developing as an important hub for arts and crafts. Its reputation in ceramics production attracted talents from neighboring regions, and eventually, Mastro Giorgio Andreoli settled in Gubbio in 1495. His iridescent luster majolica earned him fame and honors, and it is still a most prized possession for art collectors and museums worldwide.
Gubbio is still a vibrant pottery-making center, with many artisans keeping the traditional production methods alive.
