Wall Plate Julia Bella
Descriptions & details
Often hosted in the Museum of Ceramics in Deruta, Alvaro Binaglia's works are prized collectors' items and authentic masterpieces of Italian craftsmanship.
Alvaro's favorite subjects are portraits, with the occasional historical scene. During the Italian Renaissance, ceramic portraits of fashionably dressed Belle Donne - beautiful ladies - and knights were often commissioned as high-end engagement or wedding gifts. The portraits were almost invariably idealized and often surrounded by a scroll with Latin phrases related to wisdom, beauty and virtue.
The wall plate comes ready to hang.

The artist
Alvaro Binaglia is one of the most talented istoriato painters in Deruta. Istoriato, a word that means storytelling, has been a popular subject since the Italian Renaissance. It includes portraits of Belle Donne (beautiful ladies), knights, and ancient history scenes.
He is particularly fond of patterns from 16th-century majolicas from Deruta that he superbly paints on large decorative ceramics.
He works alone in a small studio where a table covered in glazes and brushes and a large kiln take up most of the space. Being his production limited, his ceramics are coveted collectors' pieces.
He has won many prizes from the Museum of Ceramics in Deruta.
Deruta is a small town in Umbria, in the heart of Italy. It has been one of the most vital centers for the production of Italian ceramics since the Renaissance (15th century). Today, Deruta is highly regarded worldwide for the fine quality and beauty of its pottery.
