This fascinating event, together with the belief that the bird\u2019s flesh never goes bad but dries naturally, entitled our ancestors to depict him as a symbol of resurrection, renewal and immortality.<\/p>\n<p>Often the representation of the <a title=\"Italian ceramics with peacocks\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/italian-handpainted-wall-plate-rampini-gubbio-opm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">peacocks on Italian ceramic objects<\/a> focuses on the \u201ceyes\u201d that decorate the birds magnificent tail. Occhio di pavone, the \u201cpeacock eye\u201d, has been a popular motif on our pottery: for example on the rim of Renaissance wall plates, on large serving bowls, on our dinnerware.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Rampini's peacock platter, tray, wall plate\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/handmade-italian\/artist\/ceramiche_rampini\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3112 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/par297bgppl_1_-e1413884699277.jpg\" alt=\"Rampini's peacock platter, tray, wall plate\" width=\"400\" height=\"400\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The \u201ceyes\u201d are said to be added to the tail feathers of the peacock by the Greek goddess Hera after the death of his loyal servant Argus who boasted one hundred eyes. Who would not care for such a guardian!
