{"id":170,"date":"2008-07-16T16:10:08","date_gmt":"2008-07-16T14:10:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thatsarte.com\/blog\/?p=170"},"modified":"2017-09-28T22:06:47","modified_gmt":"2017-09-28T20:06:47","slug":"food-design-deruta-pottery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/highlights\/food-design-deruta-pottery\/","title":{"rendered":"design@km0.umbria.it: Food design and Deruta pottery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><em>July 4 &#8211; August 4, 2008<br \/>\nSpoleto &#8211; Italy<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/km-0-umbria-inglese.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-171\" style=\"float: left;\" title=\"km-0-umbria-inglese\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/km-0-umbria-inglese-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>ADI \u2013 Industrial Design Association \u2013 has chosen a very intriguing subject to celebrate the opening of a new branch in Umbria: Food Design.<\/p>\n<p>Important designers, a famous chef and a group of Deruta potters joined their creative skills to set up an exhibition that shows how simple and natural ingredients can be turned into creative, tasty food and how tasty food can be arranged into unique plates for a multi-sensory experience.<\/p>\n<p>The key characters of the event are local food (km0) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/handmade-italian\/region\/deruta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deruta ceramic plates<\/a>, all created by the International School of Ceramic Art \u201cRomano Ranieri\u201d and hand painted by the School artists and other potters.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-medium wp-image-176\" style=\"float: left;\" title=\" Involtini - Credit: ADI\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/11-224x300.jpg\" alt=\" Involtini - Credit: ADI\" width=\"200\" height=\"267\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/11-224x300.jpg 224w, https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/11.jpg 374w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a>Videos, installations, and objects turn food into a very exciting experience and suggest new ways of eating.<\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the Association is to show how successful design innovation is powered by the creative ideas of differing \u201ccultures\u201d \u2013 in this example food &amp; wine producers, a chef and pottery makers &#8211; sharing a single-minded project.<\/p>\n<p>What makes this initiative so special, in addition to its great concept and content, is that it involves Italian pottery in a creative and contemporary context.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/crescionda-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright alignnone size-medium wp-image-175\" style=\"float: right;\" title=\"Crescionda - Credit: ADI\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/crescionda-web-237x300.jpg\" alt=\"Crescionda - Credit: ADI\" width=\"200\" height=\"254\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/crescionda-web-237x300.jpg 237w, https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/crescionda-web.jpg 395w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, this is quite a seldom occurrence in Italy, where the potential of our unrivaled pottery tradition is so often unexploited.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let\u2019s challenge our talented ceramicists!<\/p>\n<p>The success of the ADI exhibition shows that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian pottery<\/a> has great resources and a lot to say in terms of Design and Art.<\/p>\n<p>An example? Look at the outstanding pieces created by the International School of Ceramics in Deruta for the event, all inspired by a different recipe and serving a unique functional purpose.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/quenelle-web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-medium wp-image-177\" style=\"float: left;\" title=\"Quenelle - Credit: ADI\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/07\/quenelle-web-229x300.jpg\" alt=\"Quenelle - Credit: ADI\" width=\"200\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a>Nicola Boccini and his team made all the prototypes and the decoration of most of them.<\/p>\n<p>Nicola is a young, though very experienced artist from Deruta and the owner of the International School of Ceramics.
