It\u2019s now a well-established fact that the town was one of the most important ceramic centers in Italy during the Renaissance and the production area of all the Florentine pottery.<\/p>\n<p>The pride of such a splendid heritage revived the art of pottery making and had a positive impact on the local economic development.<br \/>\nToday Montelupo is a flourishing town, rich with historical buildings, talented potters and an awesome Museum of Ceramics.<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the glory of the past and today\u2019s pottery art and craft an International Ceramic Festival is organized every year in the streets of the old historic district of Montelupo.<\/p>\n<p>In a few weeks, from June 21st, performances, activities, art demos, exhibitions and young artists\u2019 installations will definitely change the look of the town.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Since first being staged in 1993, the Festival has increased the number of exhibitions and activities related to contemporary ceramic art and has promoted the interaction between the traditional craft and the innovative ideas of designer and art students.<\/p>\n<p>The 2008 edition is a very special one!<br \/>\n<a title=\"Tuscan ceramics - Regional Museun of Ceramics in Montelupo - Photo credit: Studio No\u00e8 (Firenze)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/montelupomuseo11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-full wp-image-163\" style=\"margin: 5px; float: left;\" title=\"Tuscan ceramics - Regional Museum of Ceramics in Montelupo - Photo credit: Studio No\u00e8 (Firenze)\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/montelupomuseo11.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"162\" height=\"121\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/montelupomuseo11.jpg 520w, https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/montelupomuseo11-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 162px) 100vw, 162px\" \/><\/a>The new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/highlights\/tuscan-pottery-museum-montelupo-ceramics\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Regional Museum of Ceramics<\/a> has just been opened, the School of Ceramics celebrates its 25th birthday, many young artists are joining the party and valuable collections have been donated to the Municipality. Enough to start packing \u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Festival key events<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>The Conti Collection<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nA special exhibition will be held in the Excelsion Exhibition Center featuring an antique ceramic collection that has recently been donated to the Museum of Ceramics by Marisa Conti, former Government Official responsible for the Architectural Heritage in Tuscany.<br \/>\nThe pieces range from the 5th to the 18th century and include pottery made in the ancient Tuscia region (currently Lazio), Muslim pottery from Iran, Spanish and Tuscan pottery.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Italian ceramics - Abstract Ceramic Elephant by Alessio Tasca\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/alessiotasca1web.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-full wp-image-162\" style=\"margin: 5px; float: left;\" title=\"Italian ceramics - Abstract Ceramic Elephant by Alessio Tasca\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/alessiotasca1web.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"95\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/alessiotasca1web.jpg 450w, https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/06\/alessiotasca1web-300x252.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 113px) 100vw, 113px\" \/><\/a><strong><em>Alessio Tasca Exhibition<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nAlessio Tasca is a well known contemporary artist from Nove. His works will be hosted in the charming building of the Prioria di San Lorenzo.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Contemporary pottery<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nThe Palazzo del Podest\u00e0, former house of the Museum of Ceramics, will open its new season as contemporary art center. It houses a unique collection of Tuscan pottery made in Montelupo between the 13th and the 18th century. The famous <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thatsarte.com\/blog\/highlights\/rosso-montelupo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rosso di Montelupo<\/a> stands out among them as the symbol of the originality and refinement of the local Renaissance pottery.<\/p>\n<p>Montelupo Fiorentino is a nice, authentic little town. Definitely not the restyled-for-tourists\u2019-sake kind of place, so if you\u2019re willing to take a few steps from the crowd, you may want to spend a few days here.
