Ubaldo Grazia is the most renowned Italian ceramic artist in the US. His fame is unfortunately much bigger than his production capacity. Therefore he is very reluctant to take new stores, but we managed to convince him to supply us with some beautiful pieces out of his most distinctive serving and decoration patterns, among which the beautiful fruit drainer.

Grazia is the oldest majolica factory in Deruta, and the most charming, too.

The beauty and perfection of Grazia’s pottery are gracefully framed in the antique rooms of the factory, where historical collections stand side by side with current production and unique art pieces.  It’s a unique place: wooden ceilings, terracotta floors, narrow staircases, tiny rooms followed by huge ones full of daylight where experienced potters and painters create the precious Grazia majolica.

The owner, Ubaldo Grazia, personally welcomes every visitor. If you ask him, he will show you the factory’s artworks and tell you the story of his family. He and his daughter run a business which was founded 500 years ago. At the time their most important clients were noble families, convents and the Catholic Church, which began to use and sell Grazia products to pilgrims visiting Saint Frances’ tomb in Assisi.

Umbria’s long-standing tradition of fine art is reflected in every Grazia product. Traditional majolica forms, with their ageless character, account for an important part of the production. But the present Grazia generation also pursues a vigorous policy of innovation and encourages modern expressions of the art of majolica which have become very popular.
