Our Italian ceramics are never commonplace, even when it comes to the most traditional Italian tableware, like the Raffaellesco, Ricco Deruta or Arabesco.   "Vario" ceramic dinnerware by FimaAvailable in every ceramic store in Deruta, it took us a long time, to find the quality you deserve. We've chosen Fima, a small, family run company. Exquisite elegance and subtle refinement are a common characteristic for all their ceramic dinnerware, be it a traditional Italian bowl or a modern Italian platter. Their vario dinnerware patterns– vario stands for geometric, a typical Renaissance rim design – are designed to highlight any table, be it formal or everyday, through décor changes and design trends.Italian pottery: "Millerighe" pitcher by D&G Design

During one of our frequent huntings for artful Deruta ceramics, we spotted a tiny lab run by two young artists,  D&G Design.  We were fascinated by their modern tableware and we asked them to be part of our collection of talented artists.  Be it a traditional Italian plate, a modern bowl, a decorative wall plate or a vase, their pottery always has a distinctive touch either in the color combination, or in the decoration technique or in the design. Our new artists are always worth knowing more: do browse all D&G beautiful Italian pottery!

This web site is born out of our passion for Italian majolica. As avid and highly informed collectors, mostly of decoration pottery, we know many of the finest artists of Italian ceramics, representing various regional styles, intersecting both antique and modern culture.

Shopping for ornamental Italian pottery is the best way to make your home your own, or to make a unique, personalized gift for those who mean the most to you.

Giacomo Alessi decorationsJoin us in a short tour over our choice of decorative Italian majolica. Let's start from the Sicilian pottery from Caltagirone, where we meet Giacomo Alessi. His unique Italian ceramic pieces, like the head planters or his Fangotto wall plates, talk the language of Sicily, of its rich colors and Baroque heritage. But there is more than that in Alessi's ceramics: Sicilian legends, Greek myths, modern satire, learned quotations and hilarious stories inspire his hands when molding his fancy candle holders, the figurative spice dishes, the animal figurines or, our favourite pieces, his centrepiece domes.

Italian pottery: "Blue Drops" footed planter by ND DolfiOur next destination is Montelupo, in Tuscany.
Here, we meet ND Dolfi, whose textured pieces in brilliant unusual colors have such a strong personality and physical relevance (most of them are quite large) to represent the ultimate decoration touch in any home, be it modern or classic.
Their vases, as all their other beautiful Italian ceramics including their huge centerpiece bowls, are hand molded and then finished with the painstaking application of hand made “raised” elements, such as rings, dots, pine scales.

Let's now move to Umbria, the green heart of Italy. Placed apart on a steepCeramiche Magnanelli ceramic decorations hill, protected by the surrounding mountains, the fame of Gubbio as a production center of fine Italian ceramics is mainly due to Mastro Giorgio's lustreware, whose tradition is still alive in town thanks to the splendid works of artists like Magnanelli. Their lustre wall plates are unique collector's pieces, whose value is bound to grow over time. They are also masters in painting the traditional Gubbio design: elaborate dragons, leaves and baskets decorate scrolled handled centrepieces, footed jars and umbrella stands, all bearing a charming antique finish.

The most charming Renaissance pattern in Gubbio is to be found at Ceramiche Rampini. Their simple yet touching istoriato wall plates, their lovely planters, their refined Italian tableware are not to be left behind without a second thought.

Only one hour by car and we are in Deruta. Here the Italian ceramics have quite different designs.  "The knight" centrepiece bowl by Alvaro Binaglia
Oversimplifying the richness of the local tradition we can mention three different creative areas:  the Raffaellesco and the Ricco patterns, the geometric (vario) patterns and the Renaissance istoriato ware, which depicts elaborated scenes (stories) or portraits. One of the finest artists of istoriato ware in Deruta is Alvaro Binaglia, whose talented hand creates real masterpieces in the shape of apothecary jars, istoriato Italian wall plates and centrepieces, beautiful lamps

We are very pleased to present at thatsArte.com the exquisitely elegant Italian ceramic tables created by L'Antica Deruta, a very eclectic"Siena" rectangular table by L' Antica Deruta artisanal fabbrica. The secret to the beauty and charm of their very unique Italian tables lies in the creative combination of hand painted majolica with simple, local materials, such as travertine, earthenware, iron. We also feature their richly decorated Italian ceramic tiles, their stylish tableware and some luxurious ornamental pottery.

We also decided to devote some time to collect for you nice Italian keepsakes, that can be used as unique, personalized gifts or as original wedding “bomboniere”. Italian ceramic Keepsakes by Eugenio RicciarelliIn Italy, we call “bomboniere” the traditional gifts that the bride and the groom give to all their honored guests after the reception to thank them for having been there. A smaller, thoughtful keepsake is also given to anyone who has sent a present to honor the new couple.
We do the same thing for a baptism and a christening.
All the keepsakes you find amongst our collection of Italian ceramics can be customized by adding your initials and the date of your special day. The personalization is completely free of charge.
